What to say to offers of help

With so much going on, it’s normal to not know exactly what you need for help while you’re  in this moment. This article is one you can send on to friends—coming from someone who lost their home in the 2015 Valley Fire.

It’s okay to say, “I need you to offer something specific, as I don’t have the bandwidth to figure out exactly what I need, but I do have the ability to say yes or no or think of you if I know an offer is on the table.” Your friends, colleagues, and neighbors want to help, we just don’t always have the tools to do it well. Seriously, copy and paste at will. Sometimes even finding those words is hard.

Needing and accepting help is a form of community strength, and everyone emerges from the damage a little stronger by depending and relying on one another.
